Utah In Film

Historically, Utah has played a critical role in the evolution of computer graphics beginning in the late 70's and 80's producing some of the earliest digital 3D content and computer animation for films such as Star Trek the Motion Picture and the Black Hole. During the 90's, Utah became a premier 3D modeling hub for Hollywood's visual effects studios creating content for films such as Independence Day, Star Trek: Generations, and Godzilla, and for feature animations such as Antz and Shrek. Due to its diverse landscape and progressive economic growth, Utah has become a hub for both shooting and premiering independent films at such notable film festivals as Sundance. The local talent pool has continued to thrive for nearly three decades. Consequently, building an animation studio which capitalizes on both traditional film techniques and computer generated imagery is a natural fit for Salt Lake City. After all, Utah is where Ed Catmull, one of the founders of Pixar got his start.
